The Cathedral Cafe

What a fun way to start our morning hike at the Gauley River in West Virginia. I knew I needed breakfast, and my brother knows I love churches. So, the Cathedral Cafe in Fayetteville was where we went. This cute little stone church with beautiful stained glass windows offers wonderful, unique menu options. I had scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and dill. Pretty darn good.

This isn't my typical posting for churches but a lot of churches are getting repurposed these days and I loved the way they kept the beautiful windows, wood floors, stone and added their own flair. Books, hand made gifts, and wonderful teas were also available.

Anybody else been to this cafe or have experiences with other churches who have undergone changes? I'd love to hear about them.

Why This Blog?

Visiting churches is one of my favorite things to do. While in Santa Fe, I was able to visit every church in the area including a monestary (something I had never done), and got such peace from doing that.

In New York, a step into St. Patricks Cathedral made me instantly feel like I was transparent and everything about what I thought and felt was visible. It was an experience I will always remember.

Holy Rosary in Adrian was where I went to pray, and cry, and remember, and ask for help when trying to make sense of the death of my mother. Although the church was actually closed due to renovations, I sat outside the doors and once again searched for the peace I needed at that time.

It is truly amazing the diversity of the churches in the Michigan and the surrounding areas, as well as other parts of the United States. And it is not just the church building, but the people who make up that church that is such an inspiration to me.

I thought it would be fun to document some of those that I have visited and open up this blog for other people to post their experiences and photos as well.

Although I am just beginning here, I am hoping this becomes an inspiration to many people.
